CHSPO News

Hello fellow CHS parents and guardians,

We have a very generous parent volunteer who has offered to coordinate the October 8, 2025 Staff appreciation event for CHS staff. This person will handle all of the planning, food, and supplies.

To support this event, CHS Parent Organization is raising funds through Zeffy, an application for non-profits. If you would like to support the event, we are simply asking for monetary donations toward the food and supplies through the following link:

As a disclaimer, Zeffy may ask you to donate toward their processing fee. CHSPO does not set any defaults for the processing fees.

Thanks for considering donating toward the staff appreciation event to start our year off on a positive note!

Hello CHS Parents,

The Capital High School Parent Organization (CHSPO) is reaching out with an urgent request: we need more parent volunteers.

Currently, only 5–8 parents regularly participate—and 3 of them have seniors who will be graduating this year. Without new involvement, especially in board positions, we may not be able to continue the vital support we provide to CHS staff, teachers, and students.

What Does CHSPO Do?

We’re a 100% parent-run, non-profit group, and we rely entirely on the support of CHS families to make a meaningful impact. Some of the ways we support our school community include:

  • Teacher & Staff Grants – for classroom supplies and other essential materials
  • Senior Grad Night Party – a safe and fun celebration for graduating seniors
  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation Lunches – to recognize and thank our dedicated educators

Don’t Have Much Time? That’s Okay!

We know how busy life can be—we’re parents too, juggling work, school activities, and everything in between. But here’s the good news: any level of involvement helps. Most roles require minimal time commitment, and even pitching in for an hour here and there can make a real difference.

Want to Learn More?

Join us at our next CHSPO meeting! We’ll be reviewing and approving fall teacher/staff grant requests, and we’d love for you to attend, ask questions, and see what we’re all about.

Next CHSPO Meeting: October 21st

  • 6:00 pm in CHS Library (enter school from front door)

We also wanted to share a few upcoming fundraisers that will benefit CHS programs and events:

  • October 10 – MOD Pizza (Westside location): Support the Class of 2026 Grad Night by dining at MOD Pizza. Just mention the fundraiser or show the flyer when ordering.
  • October 18 – Red Robin (Westside location): Grab dinner at Red Robin before the Homecoming Dance and support CHSPO! Be sure to mention the fundraiser or show the flyer when you order.

Please see information regarding our Senior 2026 Grad Night and our Capital High School Conger’s Closet.

Thank you for your continued support—we look forward to seeing you at the Open House!

Warmly,
Capital High School Parent Organization (CHSPO)

Restorative Practices Build Stronger Relationships

At Capital High School, our entire faculty is committed to fostering strong, positive relationships with every student. We want all scholars to feel a sense of belonging in a supportive learning community. To help achieve this, our staff participated in a two-day Restorative Practices training before the school year began.

Restorative Practices are approaches that address behaviors which harm relationships or disrupt our learning environment. By talking through incidents and exploring the impact on others, students and staff work together to create agreements that repair harm and help prevent future issues.

Restorative Dialogues
One tool teachers use is the “restorative dialogue,” an informal conversation guided by questions such as:

  • What happened?
  • What were you thinking at the time?
  • Who was affected by what happened?
  • What can you do to make things right?
  • What do you need to resolve the conflict?

These conversations often lead to an agreement to repair the harm and rebuild trust.

Classroom Circles
Teachers also use “circles” to build community and connect with students. Circles provide everyone with a chance to be heard, listen to others’ perspectives, and work together to resolve challenges or set classroom agreements.

Our Restorative Practices Center
Capital High School also has a dedicated Center for Restorative Practices that supports teachers and facilitates more formal conferences when issues extend beyond what can be handled in class. Working closely with administration, the Center brings people together to address conflicts, find common ground, and develop fair agreements.
