IB News
Mandatory Meeting for any student taking an IB Exam
- If you are taking an IB Exam this spring, please come to B-6 during Coug Time A on Friday, January 24th for a mandatory meeting.
- Bring a pen.
- There will be a make up session for anyone who misses this meeting on Wednesday, January 29th at 12:10 in B-6.
Off Season Track and Cross Country Workouts
Our Winter off season workouts will begin Monday January 6th and run until Feb 28. The first official day of practice is March 3rd. More information on the 2025 season to come.
Requirements:
- An active physical (good up to one year). Students who do not have a physical uploaded onto Final forms must bring a print out to their first winter workout. (can also be emailed to me)
- Signed assumption of risk paper. Attached to this email (can also be electronically signed and emailed)
- Athletes should dress to workout outside, with long sleeves and pants to warm up in.
What: Winter workouts will include lifting and running. These are open to any current 9-12 CHS students. These are flexible trainings, students can come to whatever sessions they can make.
Where: Meeting initially every session on the CHS track/football field.
When:
- Sprint focused athletes: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 3:45-4:45
- Distance focused athletes: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 3:45- 5:15
- Distance: Lifting and Workouts M and Th, Group run Wed.
Mandatory Senior Class Meeting - February 5th
The Winter Mandatory Senior Class Meeting is on Wednesday, February 5th during advisory (10:27am) in the PAC. In this meeting we will give you some end of year dates and deadlines for graduation. If you are not able to attend please schedule a meeting with your Counselor for your last one on one check in meeting.
Winter Care Clothing Drive
CHS Leadership is having a Winter Care clothing and essentials drive now through Jan 24th. We are looking for donations of gloves, warm hats, coats, blankets, socks, hand warmers etc. You can drop items off in the main office, commons or the Leadership classroom E-1. There are drop boxes located in each of these places. Thank you!
There will be a children's book drive to benefit the South Sound Reading Foundation from Jan 21st to February 14th. Bring in new or gently loved childrens or elementary aged appropriate books to the drop boxes located in the main office, commons and E-1.
CHS Staff vs Students Basketball Game
Unified Basketball and Cheer, and a Staff vs Student basketball game will be taking place on February 6th. The event will start at 6:30pm in the CHS main gym. There is a recommended $5 donation for entrance to help raise funds for our Unified athletes uniforms. This will be a night that we want to fill the stands with spectators to cheer on our teams. It is guaranteed to be a great night! Go Cougs!
9th-11th Grade Information and Registration Night
9th-11th Grade Information and Registration Night will be held on Wednesday, February 12th starting at 5:30 in the PAC. You will learn how to register your student for next school year and will be able to attend several breakout sessions to gather more information about your students educational options.
CHS Theatre Production
THE MOUSETRAP
Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, the longest-running play of all time, is taking Capital Theatre by storm on January 17th, 18th, 23rd, 24th, and 25th!
PLOT SUMMARY: After one of the most lurid murders of the century, Monkswell Manor offers a safe haven for Londoners to rest in luxury. When a snowstorm traps the guests and staff together in the manor, it soon becomes clear that one of them is the killer. A detective arriving on skis interrogates the increasingly suspicious suspects: the proprietors of the hotel; a hyperactive man running from his past; an older woman who dislikes all she sees; a mysterious retired Army major; an aloof young woman with a horrific childhood; and a man of unknown origin who shows up to the manor after claiming his car turned over in the snow. This ever-lasting murder mystery features one of the most impactful surprise endings of all time from Dame Agatha Christie, the foremost mystery writer of her time.

Spring Sports Registration
We will be opening registration for spring sports on February 1. Spring sports include: baseball, fastpitch, boys golf, girls golf, boys soccer, girls tennis and boys/girls track.
First day of spring practice will be Monday, March 3.
Boys Baseball will be offering a Baseball Winter Clinic (ages 7-14) on February 1st for $30. Please contact [email protected] for additional information.
Counseling Center News
As we approach the end of the semester, please note the following important dates and information:
- The last day of the first semester is Friday, January 31st.
- Second semester classes begin on Monday, February 3rd.
We encourage all students to check their Semester 2 schedule in Skyward as soon as possible. If you notice any errors or need to request a schedule change, please complete the Class Schedule Change Form using the link below and return to the Counseling Center. Please know that MOST classes are already at capacity and changes will be difficult.

- Schedule changes must be submitted to the Counseling Center by Friday, February 7th.
- Please note that any changes made after February 7th may result in a failing grade being recorded on the transcript.

Community Connections
National Human Trafficking Prevention Month
Local Resources include:
- The Family Justice Center serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. If you or someone you know is currently experiencing intimate partner violence, you are not alone. Confidential advocates are available to help explain what options are available for individual situations and provide support. All services provided are free of charge. If you need help due to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or trafficking, please call our office at 360-754-9297 x 200 for assistance M-TH from 9am-5pm and Fridays from 9am-2pm.
- SafePlace Olympia Helpline 360-754-6300. SafePlace works to put an end to sexual and domestic violence through crisis intervention and education.

The Olympia Education Foundation is hosting a 2-part virtual event on gender diversity as part of their well-being speaker series. SchooLinks: SchooLinks is the High School and Beyond Plan platform that is our school's platform. The High School and Beyond Plan is a Graduation requirement. All CHS students have To Do's to complete in the SchooLinks platform, this would be a good time for them to catch up and look for career and/or college ideas for their futures. Seniors and Senior Guardians
FAFSA and College Applications: Senior students this is another quick reminder to make sure your FAFSA is complete if you are wanting student aid. Also, don't forget that the colleges you are applying to needs to be added in SchooLINKS, either through linking Common App with SchooLinks or adding them individually. If you are having trouble with this, please feel free to stop in the CCRC or Schedule Appointment with Mrs. Smith as soon as possible.
Students remember to request teacher recommendations through SchooLinks...If colleges are NOT added in SchooLInks, the counselors can't get your transcripts sent to the colleges you've applied to.
