Capital High School Giving Tree Program 2024

Dear Families,

We are so proud of the incredibly supportive family community we have here at Capital High School. We have a wonderful tradition of helping our families in need by providing holiday gifts to students. This letter outlines our program – both for families in need and for families who wish to help.

If you would like to contribute to our holiday gift efforts, beginning November 10th, We will be accepting donations of $25 Target gift cards. Please drop off to any of the following locations: Registrar's office, Attendance office, and Main office. Please have donations delivered no later than December 13th. This way we can organize distribution. More donation opportunities are expected to come soon.

Tutoring and Homework Help

Tutoring and Homework Help is provided every Wednesday from 2:40 to 3:25 in the CHS Library. Support for all subjects will be offered. Students are encouraged to bring their chromebook and any assignments they would like additional support to complete.

School transportation is not available at 3:25 on Wednesdays so students will need to arrange to be picked up or take the city bus home.

Attendance Reminder

With the holidays approaching please remember that ANY ABSENCE OVER THREE DAYS (NOT INCLUDING ILLNESS) MUST HAVE PRIOR APPROVAL THROUGH the Extended Leave of Absence form.  Signatures from the Dean of Students, parents and teachers are all required.  This process may take a couple days to complete so please plan in advance.  Forms may be obtained in the attendance office.

CHS Food Drive

The Food Drive for the Thurston County Food Bank is happening now! Our goal is to reach 50,000 cans. Students can bring in donations, both non-perishable food or cash donations to their 1st period classes. There is a class competition going on! Please help us reach our goal and more importantly support the Thurston County Food Bank. There are two other fun ways to help the food drive, they are the following:

Crumbl Cookie will be selling cookies at both lunches on Weds Dec 4th and Weds Dec 11th for $5.00!! When you purchase a cookie, 15% of the proceeds goes to the Thurston County Food Bank! It is a win win. Get a tasty cookie and benefit the food drive! You can pay with both cash and card. Your purchase will also be counted towards your 1st period class count.

Thursday during lunches is PIE A STAFF MEMBER DAY! You can donate a dollar to the food drive and receive a ticket to enter a drawing to put a pie in a staff member's face at the assembly on Friday. There are several staff that are up for the fun. The top 3 staff with the most tickets will get PIED. It is $1 for a ticket and $5 for 10 tickets. Your donations will also go to your 1st period class count! All of the money will go to the Thurston County Food Bank!

Let’s go Cougars, bring in those donations!!

Community Connections

We would like to highlight two key organizations dedicated to supporting the well-being and rights of young people in our community.  Both of these organizations reflect the core values of Universal Human Rights Month, working to create a community where all youth have access to safety, support, and the chance to succeed.

  • Community Youth Services (CYS):  CYS offers a broad range of services for young people in need, including emergency shelter, counseling, and support for youth experiencing homelessness. They focus on empowering youth by ensuring their rights to safety, stability, and self-advocacy, providing a crucial lifeline for those facing difficult circumstances.
  • TOGETHER!:  This nonprofit is committed to youth advocacy, with a strong emphasis on promoting health, education, and resilience. TOGETHER! provides resources for substance use prevention, mental health support, and youth development programs. Through their work, they strive to create a more equitable and healthy environment where every young person can thrive.
