CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The CHS Literary Magazine is now accepting submissions of student work through Friday, January 31 at 4 PM. We are especially interested in hearing from a diverse representation of student voices. We seek poetry, personal essays/creative non-fiction, fiction, script excerpts, photography and digital art. See the blurb about each below for more information.

POETRY: Submit up to 3 original poems. 

CREATIVE NON-FICTION: Non-fiction with a more personal tone.

FICTION: Up to 4000 words of your original fiction. Excerpts okay, but include an introduction with some background/context.

SCRIPT EXCERPTS: A scene from your original play or screenplay. Include an introduction that gives background/context.

DIGITAL ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY: For print, files must be at least 300 dpi.

MISSION STATEMENT

The CHS Literary Magazine seeks to promote and elevate diverse student voices through language and visual art. We take submissions of poetry, drama, fiction, creative nonfiction, and art through January 31st each year. Our mission is to create a space where student writers and artists can share their work and to celebrate our community of artists and writers here at Capital. We prioritize student voice in the design and creation of this magazine.

 

COVER DESIGN CONTEST

Enter our Cover Design Contest and win three copies of this year’s literary magazine and a sticker featuring our mascot, Stubbs!

Terms and Conditions

  • All artwork entered must be the original work of those submitting it. 
  • There is no limit to the number of entries per person. 
  • Works produced within the last three years are preferred.
  • Prize winners will be selected by a panel of judges and their decision is final.
  • Once announced, all entrants will be notified of the result by email. 
  • By submitting your entry, you agree to all of the terms and conditions listed here.

 

Technical Specifications

  • Artwork will be accepted in JPG, PNG or PDF form. 100 MB file size limit for entry. Winners will be contacted for high resolution images.

 

Rights

  • All artists retain copyright of their work.
  • All entrants agree to the storage of their images in electronic form for the purpose of judging the competition and the private distribution of those images as required to complete the judging process.
  • The artist warrants that the rights (of any kind) to the image have not previously been sold or granted to any third party. 
  • The winner and finalists grant CHS Literary Magazine the right to use the images in electronic form or in print for the specific purpose of promoting Anthology and its Awards without restriction in any media.
  • CHS Literary Magazine agrees that images will not be made available for download on any of its websites at high resolution and that all images used will be credited to the artists. CHS Literary Magazine will not be responsible for unauthorized use of any image by a third party.
