Text: Holt Geometry (2007)
Grading:
Tests, quizzes, and projects are 60% of the overall grade.
Homework is 30% and participation is 10% of the overall grade.
A: 93-100%; A-: 90-92.9%; B+: 87-89.9%; B: 83-86.9%; B-: 80-82.9%; C+: 77-79.9%; C: 73-76.9%; C-: 70-72.9%; D+: 67-69.9%; D: 60-66.9%; F: below 60%
Homework:
Most homework assignments will be worth ten points. Five points will be for completion and the other five points will be for selected problems that I will grade. Usually homework will be assigned on a daily basis and will be checked the following day in class. The assignment will not be collected for grading until the following day so that students have the opportunity to correct their mistakes before a grade is assigned. All work must be shown for credit.
Tests:
Tests will usually be given at the end of each unit. Missed tests must be made up within one week outside of class time. Students should arrange a time with me. Tests can be retaken only if the student has a homework average of at least 80%. Normally test retakes can only be done after school on Wednesday or before school on Thursday.
Help:
I will do my best to cover topics thoroughly during class but sometimes students may miss class or just need a little more help. I will be available before and after school for extra help. This is a high priority for me and I strongly encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity. Students should arrange with me ahead of time in case I have a meeting or an appointment that would conflict.
Class Expectations:
Food or drink other than plain water is not allowed in class.
MP3 players, cell phones or other electronics except calculators should not be in class (will result in confiscation at least until end of the day).
Discipline policies as outlined in the CHS student handbook and the OSD Student Rights and Responsibilities booklet.
Materials:
Students should have a scientific calculator. A graphing calculator is not necessary at this level.
8 ½ by 11 pad of graph paper
Three ring binder or spiral notebook for organizing notes and assignments.
