Finance report
PTO expense forms are available at the Office
We have 113% of what was budgeted
Parent Ed nights
These were started last year. The first one this year deals with Sexually Aggressive Behavior . Parents and students are invited.
Topics which may be addressed later this year are Anger Management, and Communication during Teen Years.
Student Issues
Food – The director of the district’s food program met with students for their input. The students suggested more variety. Restaurants can supply and sell food to the district as long as the food meets regulations.
Dances
Tolo was canceled LAST year because of poor ticket sales.
The school has no plans yet for dances the rest of this year except Homecoming and the Prom. There may be other dances planned as long as they promote a fun, safe, and healthy environment. There were concerns that some of the dances were not comfortable for many in the student body, and certainly not for the parents and teachers chaperoning (who felt that they were not able to effectively maintain the reasonable limits of dress and behavior). Psychological and physical harassment of some students, especially younger ones, was a concern.
Fall Finacial awards
There is a committee which is due to meet and review the grant applications by Nov 1st.
Committee reports
Grocery vouchers – Safeway e script (signing up on line) automatically gets the school 1% of the grocery bill value. Last month we collected about $500.
Stormans has a card which similarly gives the school a percentage automatically.
Top Foods uses cards as cash and gives a good percentage.
The PTO benefited by over $6,000 last year with the grocery rebate program. Encourage your friends and neighbors to sign up on line for Safeway or buy Top Food cards from us!!!
Newsletter
The Barnes and Noble book fair will go on THREE days this year. The PTO raised over $1,000 last year. We should make even more this year – encourage your friends and neighbors and coworkers to buy their books for Christmas and presents Dec 1-3 at Barnes and Noble (vouchers are available for free from the Office or Bette Hall – who can email the vouchers to you! Bette’s email is betteah@hotmail.com).
Cougar Connection
Members of the PTO get the phone book for free. Nonmembers pay $20.
Freshman Class
Representatives were not present.
Sophomore Class
Has $700.
Junior Class
Has $2900 in account. Will have car wash in Spring and a no-fuss fundraiser (simply ask for donations) soon. Volunteers are still needed to help at the first Father Daughter dance whose proceeds all go to the Class of 2008. Put the date March 10th on your calendars to help decorate all day in the Commons!
Senior Class
Is planning Grad Party. Venues have been reserved. Baccalaureate site is reserved, as is Prom. Senior photos are due, as are Parent Ads for students graduating.
Foundation
Will get half of the net profit from the Palapalooza March 3rd and the second Father Daughter dance March 24th (PTO gets the other half). Helpers from the Foundation and PTO are needed for those days! Email Cynthia Wolfe cncwolfe@comcast.net if you would like to enjoy a wonderful evening of darling daughters and handsome fathers!
NEWS for many of us: The class of 2004 generously donated over $8,000 to buy a beautiful large bronze Cougar from an art auction at a steep discount from the original price of $35,000!! It was expected that a place (protective showbox) for the Cougar would be arranged during the remodel, but it did not occur. A suggestion has been made that some of the profits from the Palapalooza, Father Daughter dances, and hopefully from the PTO and Foundation – will provide, finally, a display case for this beautiful symbol of our school. Approximately $3,000 is needed to proudly cage this cougar for display.
State Your Concerns
Staff is learning to:
- make web pages.
- Hopefully there will be
a successful levy to provide tech support
- We will change to a
semester system next year
- Seniors have to have
their project proposal by Oct. of Senior Year. Juniors can get
approval early so they can work on it in the summer.
