September 2005 Minutes
1. Treasurer reportWe have over 11 K . We started the school year with 9K, so we will have more to use in our budget this year.
There are forms we should use either when depositing money or for reimbursement of expenditures.
2. Membership
$20 to join the PTO- this includes a free directory, which otherwise can be bought for $5
Chris Cody is compiling the list of parents in the organization.
Lori Boyd is putting the class rosters together for the directory. For more than two years we have discussed how to add email addresses in the book. The problem is that email addresses are rather fluid. One solution could be to have parents themselves add and update their email addresses by logging onto a protected yahoo site.
3. Newsletter deadline dates are : Oct 4th for PTO submissions
Oct 24th there will be a work party starting at 8am to fold and label the newsletter for mailing. Anyone who wants to join the raucous group is welcome to meet in the Office area.
4. Freshman class report – Elizabeth Siegel Browning
5. Sophomore class – Lori and Tammy
6. Junior class – will organize two Father Daughter dances this year. Ideas for fundraising include:
Selling Tshirts for each class year
Doing another “no work” fundraiser by direct mail
7. Senior class – Grad night meetings are being arranged by Tammy Questi. The parents will not be expected to fundraise nor decorate.
8. The issue of STORAGE for PTO equipment used for many events was discussed. Currently the Questi family has much in their garage. Renting/getting donated space from a storage company and sharing it with Booster club and Foundation will be investigated.
9. The Barnes and Noble book sale will be SAT DEC 3rd. We will have vouchers to give to friends, coworkers, neighbors, staff, etc. to be used to purchase books at a discount. The store will then donate money to us.
10. Grocery cards are available
11. The Grant committee consists of Cynthia Sanders, Dawn Cooper, Kate Brown, and Gail. The deadline for grants to be submitted by teachers to the committee is Nov 1st.
12. OPEN HOUSE DATE CHANGED from Oct 6th TO OCTOBER 11th 6:30 pm
For the Open House the Jefferson parking lot will be available , with a bus shuttle
The Jefferson and Capital reader boards should have that information advertised.
13. Parking spots are 100 fewer than last year. When construction is completed we will have 120 spots back.
14. Maps to various schools for events are available in the Activities Office front desk area. Parents should be made aware of that source. Also, we will put a page in the directory with instructions how to access via websites.
15. Ken Finch from Office Max (and a CHS parent) explained how we could sell vouchers for families or groups to make calendars and $4 would go to the PTO directly. The vouchers would be for the other $15.99. Cynthia Wolfe offered to try to sell these at Open House.
16. Concern about the fact that this year the WASL will be given to the Sophomores the same week as their final exams! The school is trying to deal with this.
