May 2005 Minutes

*Treasurer's Report*

Ann Wessel will be Treasurer next school year.

*Grocery Card Report*

A separate bank account will be set up to make record keeping easier. Thriftway and Bayview (Storman stores) will give a 1% rebate to the school. You do not need to buy a card you will be given a card at the beginning of the school year, for the store to scan when you are at the checkout; the checks are mailed to the school quarterly.

*Class Reports*

No June garage sale since it would not be cost effective now since the gym is not available due to reconstruction, we would have only the commons to use, and yet our overhead (custodian work) is the same. Decision was made to wait until larger area is available.

Last day of school. Need parents to bring in salad or other food, and to help in one of two shifts, 8:00-11:30 and 11:30-2:30. Submarines will be main entre, steamer clams will be donated by Taylors again.

*Arts Recognition Night*

Almost 300 participants this year. We may have to limit the number of submissions to 3 or less per participant next year, since it was a lot of judging work.

*Positions for 2005-6 CHSPO*

Almost all filled!!! (Bette Hall sighs in relief) Still need someone to coordinate the grant/financial awards

*School Report*

The remodel will take 2 years, in 6 phases.

Phase I has started. There are staging areas for construction equipment . Air Conditioning is being put into the music dept. area. There has been some demolition between Pods done, so by September there will be a few new classrooms and a music wing about 40% larger. There will be room for athletic storage .

Work on the gym upgrades will occur this summer.

The plans include a science wing (where the portables are currently).

The art, wood, metal and ceramic, power tech classes will be redone over next year.

The ASB office will be pushed back and enough space added to the Commons to accommodate the whole student body over two lunches by Sept of 2006. The Special Ed classrooms will be more integrated with the whole school.. Current Staff rooms will become Special Ed classrooms. There will be joint Staff rooms in the centers of Pods. New counselor areas will be built eventually.

*Concerns Discussed*
  1. Still need a 4^th year math class available for students who took Geometry in 8^th grade , as well as for students who need another math class with some review. Consideration is being made to create a Statistics class.

Students need to be encouraged to make use of the FREE math help available in the Library every Wednesday or more often, after school for an hour or two.

This should be printed every time in the Bulletin.
