Attendance

Charlie Kirry, Luke Bowerman, Marc Turnbow, Kevin Wright, and Scott Le Duc

Agenda

  1. Set a schedule for future 2004-05 meetings
  2. Discuss anatomy of good, relevant lesson plans
  3. Review Career Pathways proposed to the State

The meeting started 6PM at the Casa Mia Italian restaurant in Olympia.

Charlie asked about our class offerings. We discussed the various photography, multimedia, video, networking, and computer maintenance pathways offered at both schools.

Charlie suggested that we have career fair or day for kids to explore options in career and technical education.

Discussion ensued about the IB program and other scheduling barriers to student involvement in our program.

Kevin gave background of the new statewide CTE development. Marc explained foundation classes and their place in the pathway.

Charlie expressed concern about the lack of digital material in our photo program. We talked about options to enhance the class including Photoshop batch automation, digital proofsheets, scanning, color profiling. We discussed how film-based and digital run parallel.

Charlie shared options for inexpensive digital printing, including Costco. We also decided to convene a time to talk about digital criteria for the photography class.

We looked at samples of student project composition.

We discussed options for building articulation agreements with colleges.

Scott discussed his involvement with the state-level planning group for the photography pathway.

Kevin and Scott offered information about their portfolio night, where kids showcase their portfolios.

We discussed creating our own criteria for pathways for our classes that don't have a statewide counterpart. This way we can better leverage our own ideas when the statewide standards are drafted.

A request came from Mike Hickman after the meeting for us to add more professionals to fill out our committee representation. Nothing against our current members. They are committed individuals. It is the intension to add to an already strong committee.

The next meeting will be held on December 8th, at Soho Teriyaki on the West Side from 6-8 PM.

Actionable Items
