Outdoor School (Cispus)
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
- High school students are trained to mentor 5th grade students and support 5th grade teachers with instruction during Outdoor School at Camp Cispus.
- Camp Cispus Information
- Student counselors can earn either a full trimester occupational credit or 60 service hours for completing all training and attending an Outdoor School session.
- Returning counselors can earn another occupational credit for participating
in all training as a trainer-leader. This role is defined by the school counselor
trainer.
- Returning counselors will repeat all training while mentoring new counselors through the experience.
HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR REQUIREMENTS
- Eligibility: High school counselor candidates must be either a Junior or Senior in good academic standing that can commit to all training dates and attend one of the Outdoor School Sessions at Camp Cispus.
- Attendance: Perfect attendance is expected as critical
training material will be covered in each training session. Counselor candidates
must make arrangements to make-up missed training with the high school counselor
coordinator.
- Attend 16 Classroom Training Sessions
- Attend First Aid Training
- Attend Camp Management Saturday at Cispus
- Attend Outdoor School Session in April or May
